Faris
We would like everyone to meet Faris.
She is between 27-35 years old and is a chestnut Shetland.
Unfortunately for Faris her owners ill health meant they were unable to care for her any more. She has had the same home for 20 years! Can you imagine how heart-wrenching the decision to surrender her must have been? Faris has been seen by our vet and will be in need of some ongoing care. Faris has periodontal disease which will require some dentist work.
The photo of her mouth shows decaying food deposited up in pockets in her cheeks and in between teeth which she can’t dislodge! This means she is going to be on a diet of soft foods and grass. Faris also got tested for Cushings and the results unfortunately came back positive. She is now on medication to help settle the symptoms and bute to help ease any pain. All this medication and on going vet care is costing a lot of money and this is where we need your help. A donation of just £1 a month could help support Faris and get her the care she needs.
These five lovely Shetlands were surrendered by their owners due to no fault of their own. His wife who owned the horses unfortunately passed away and although he tried his very best to care for them work commitments got in the way. They arrived to Hugs and were in desperate need of some love and care.
Wellington & Misty are laminitic and had boots and shoes on to help give them some comfort. These boots have been removed by our farrier to try and relieve some of the strain from their feet. They have poor sole depth so they need to build up their hoof wall and firmness of their sole before they are sound again.
Josephine, Jasper, Wellington & Misty’s coat were matted and scabby. They all needed medicated baths to help relive their itchiness and get their coat looking healthy and shiny again. PLUS Misty and Wellington were clipped!
These 5 beautiful ponies still have a long way to go but the Hugs team are ready to give them the loving and care they need! Without our supporters we would not be able to do it. Please donate and help us keep up the great work.
Balou was one of our first rescues, he came to us in 2017 as an unruly and territorial colt. We had Balou castrated and begun to see a complete relaxed side to this BIG BABY!
Balou has since found his perfect forever home! He has learnt lots of life lessons by his amazing owners and is now started to hack out and explore the local area.
every donation whether large or small – makes a huge difference to the animals in our care.
Daim (pictured here) was rescued in October 2018. He was just 6weeks old, far too young to be aware from his mother but unfortunately this poor yong foal was snatch from his mother and taken to market – where he was left unsold. Hugs took Diam, Morris and Huckleberry from Chagford Market.
Daim was weak, lethargic and he didn’t have any muscle tone so when he was walking he would often wobble and stumble over.
With time, specialist food (costing £14 per bag!!), care and attention from staff and volunteers Daim is now much stronger, confident and really beginning to blossom.
