After the success of our August open day, we are happy to announce we have two more dates for your diaries! Saturday 23rd of October is our Halloween Spooktacular and Saturday 4th of December is our Christmas special. Both days will be open from 10am to 2pm. We have already got some fantastic raffles prizes up for grabs including family days out to the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Camel Creek and a voucher for a case of pasties from Proper Cornish. We can’t wait to see you all there!
We had a fantastic day with The Veterans Farm-Able Foundation and their group of veterans and serving military personnel. The sensory garden is getting a makeover after some very kind donations of turf and a beautiful picnic bench and the equine assisted intervention work with our rescue ponies was really beneficial. What was really interesting was the choice our service users made in their ponies. They just happened to choose the two sassiest ponies on the yard who turned out to be just what they needed. We worked on leadership skills and some amazing progress was made for both people and ponies. Horses really are incredible to work alongside and help improve human well-being. We ended the day with a body scan and some mindfulness with our lovely Hazel in the fields, surrounded by ponies, wildlife and sunshine. A very productive and thoroughly enjoyable day all-round. Huge thank you to The National Lottery Community Fund for making this project and positive changes possible.
We’re in the customer vote for a Tesco Community Grant. It’s a scheme which gives community projects like us grants of up to £1,500. Tesco customers will now be able to vote in Wadebridge store from 1st October and continue to 31st December 2021 to decide how much funding we get, so please support us next time you shop at Tesco. Blisland Church is having a pet blessing service on October 3rd at 3pm. ALL animals are welcome! It will be a short service followed by teas/refreshments and a bric a brac, book and plant sale at Village Institute which is next door to the Church. They have a lovely village green where people can relax and let their pets have a good run around. Monies raised will be donated equally to Blisland Church and The Hugs Foundation so head on over for something different, lots of fun and raising money for great causes ????????? ??
Hugs are incredibly excited to announce that the amazing Pets at Home Foundation are donating funding towards our vet and feed bills and enabling us to purchase new Mud Mats to save both the ponies and staff from the dreaded winter mud! We are eternally grateful, the ponies are looking forward to escaping the mud and the staff can’t wait to be able to stay on our feet this winter, instead of ending up face first in mud! HUGE thank you to this awesome organisation! ???
We have some fantastic news to share with you. Hugs has successfully been chosen to receive a grant from Cornwall’s Social Enterprise Fund administered through the awesome Cornwall Community Foundation!
For those of you that follow Hugs regularly, you will know how hard our small, dedicated team have been working through the pandemic. Due to being unable to run on-site well-being interventions, our youth team have been helping our horse rescue team, who have been incredibly busy with rescues and rehoming. With lockdown restrictions lifted, we have been able to re-open for our on-site interventions. This has meant these staff members are back to working full time on our well-being projects, due to the demand for our services, leaving a very depleted team on the yard.
The funding will employ a full time Animal Welfare Assistant to enable the youth team to help more people in need and to help meet demand for our animal rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming side. This will also help our charity recover from the financial impact of the pandemic and enable us to grow to meet demand in the community. Thank you so much CCF and the incredible team there, your support for Cornish charities is just fantastic, just look at the difference you’re making! ?
