2023 Achievements, Thanks To You All!

2023 Achievements, Thanks To You All!

We would like to say a huge thank you and wish you a happy New Year from the whole team at Hugs. 2023 was a challenging but rewarding year and with your donations and support we have achieved so much. We are excited to further grow and be able to help more animals and people in need. This year’s outcomes are because of your continued support and we wanted to share our incredible stories and figures with you….

In 2019 we only had 16 monthly donors which was around £200 a month. We now have reached £1,500 a month in monthly donations! This is just amazing! So, what have we achieved?

• 27 equines rescued. A total of 204 now rescued since 2017!
• 26 equines rehomed. A total of 154 now rehomed since 2017!
• 9 permanent residents that make up the well-being team, plus all the farm and small animals!
• 13 horses and ponies in foster homes.
• 62 children and young people supported through well-being sessions. A total of over 750 since 2017 through over 6,500 hours of sessions!
• Rescuing numerous other animals including more ducks!

All of this would not have been possible without your valuable support, we cannot thank you enough for making these differences to lives and for your continued support for our charity.

Thanks again to your incredible donations, we were able rescue a herd of foals. Our youngest foal, Pumpkin, has made friends with Igor. She has been able to learn lots from Igor and has settled in well at Hugs after arriving at only two weeks old. The other foals are all gaining their confidence with people and we look forward to sharing more of their rehabilitation journey from rescue to rehomed in 2024.

With our grant funding, we have been able to employ another Youth Well-Being Facilitator named Julie, who has previously worked in a similar role and brings a wealth of experience with her. We would like to welcome Julie to the team! Julie will be working alongside Hazel, our incredible Well-Being Manager, which means we will be able to help more young people in need with our well-being sessions. We will be able to teach life skills, coping strategies and resilience for lifelong impact through therapeutic learning, animal-assisted services and ecotherapy so we are very excited that we will be able to offer this service to more children and young people.

Sat nav’s can be a bit temperamental getting you here so as you turn onto Helland Road (at the cemetery), keep going along that road until you get to the top of the hill and you will see the Hugs sign on the left. You can’t miss it, it’s a fairly big sign at the end of the drive. Please come through the first gate and park in the designated area. Make sure you bring your wellies! We look forward to meeting you all!

Foal & Crowdfunder Update

Foal & Crowdfunder Update

Wow, what an incredible Crowdfunder! We have raised an amazing £14,304 plus over £2,000 in Gift Aid! Thank you all so much for your kindness and compassion for these foals, we are delighted to say we have been able to help them all. The nine recent foals are currently in quarantine and those needing some extra support are receiving veterinary care and extra care from our expert staff. We have enough funding so that if anymore need rescuing, we will be able to take them in too, so thank you so much for making this all possible.

Little Pumpkin’s nose is looking so much better. She is still quite sore on her feet but we have had her strangles test results back and are very pleased to announce that she has been given the all-clear. The team have moved her to a larger pen and have started introducing her slowly to a friend.

If you would like to continue to see her updates and the other foals, please sign up to The Hugs Foundation’s monthly newsletter on this link https://hugsfoundation.org.uk/news-events/. Thank you so much for saving these lives and we hope you enjoy reading about their rehabilitation and eventually finding their forever home 🥰

Many thanks for your kindness and support,

Laura & the Hugs team

Orphan Foal & Crowdfunder Update

Orphan Foal & Crowdfunder Update

We are over the moon to be able tell you all know that, thanks to your incredible kindness and generosity, we have hit our foal Crowdfunding target! The little foal is doing well and has started going out for some grass. We are now on our way to our ‘stretch’ target which will help care for the foals over a longer period, supporting them through further rehabilitation and hopefully to finding them a loving, forever home.

Please continue to share our Crowdfunder to help us reach our ‘stretch’ target! You could put something like “I’m supporting The Hugs Foundation to save these foals. You can support them too by donating here https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/hugs-orphan-foals-in-need-of-rescue.”

If everyone found just one friend or family member to pledge, we could double the amount of support for these foals and ensure their rehabilitation, with the longer term aim of rehoming them into a loving, forever home.

Emergency – Herd of Orphan Foals in Need of Rescue!

Emergency – Herd of Orphan Foals in Need of Rescue!

On Monday 9th October at 10am ,we are launching an emergency Crowdfunding campaign as we have been asked to rescue 12 orphan foals who are otherwise sadly destined to be shot. The heartbreaking reality is that without your support and Hugs expert care, they will die.

The foal in the photo has already arrived at Hugs as an emergency rescue. She is just weeks old and absolutely tiny, smaller than our collie dog. We are all very concerned for her and desperately need everyone’s help to change her very short and distressing life. Without your support and Hugs expert care, sadly this foal will die in this condition. Unfortunately, she is very poorly from being away from her mum. She is dehydrated, has suspected pneumonia, skin infections and is covered in fly eggs and ticks. It is one of the most shocking cases we have seen, especially for something so precious and at such a young age. She will need round the clock care to save her life and the next 24 hours will be crucial. We promise to do everything we can to help her.

It costs between £700 and £1,100 to initially rescue each orphan foal. We need your kind donations so we can give them a fighting chance. With the help from your support and the Hugs team, orphaned foals will not face death this winter, but love, kindness and expertise from our team and a secure future.

We have the space and expertise to take them in but sadly, due to a huge decline in funding for animal welfare charities, we need funding to enable us to pay for their intake costs.

We need to raise at least £11,000 to enable us to rescue this little herd and secure their futures. With the help of our supporters and raising this money, we will be able to take these babies in and give them the specialist diet and care they need to grow into healthy ponies and find their forever homes.

As one of our long-standing supporters could you pledge a donation to help us reach our target? You can either choose to donate or you can choose a donation in exchange for a reward, one of which includes naming a foal and a VIP visit to meet them!

We understand how difficult times are for everyone and that it is a huge ask from our supporters but with everyone’s kindness and support we can reach this target and save these foals lives.

The Crowdfunder link is below to donate. Please help share the campaign as the more people that see it, the more likely we are to reach our target and save these lives.
